Attendance control: roll call, absence reasons and behaviour

Quick answer

In Badgie you take attendance on each Calendar session, from the web or the coach app: every student is marked Present or Absent, and an absence can carry a reason (some, such as "Other team", do not count as an absence). If the club uses the Behaviour module, the coach gives each student a green, amber or red face; the red one asks for a reason. Everything is analysed in the Attendance and Behaviour tabs.

Where to find it

  • Web: Dashboard → Calendar → open the session → Take attendance and Behaviour.
  • Coach app: Calendar → today's class → Take attendance and Behaviour.
  • Analysis: the Calendar tabs Attendance (Overview, Attendance matrix, Dropout risk), Follow-up (confirmations and automatic notices) and Behaviour.
Session card with the attendance summary (12 present) and behaviour summary (7 good, 4 neutral, 1 bad)
Each session card summarises who came and how they behaved, with the Take attendance and Behaviour buttons.

Step by step: take attendance on the web

  1. Open the session in the Calendar on the day of the class. If the class has not happened yet, the web tells you that you can take attendance on the day.
  2. Click Take attendance. Mark each student with ✓ (present) or ✕ (absent), or use Select all / None.
  3. On an absent student click Add reason (or Change reason) and choose: Injured, Illness, Holiday, Work, School, Rest, Suspended, Missed / Unexcused, Other team, National team, Rehab or Other. Reasons flagged "Does not count as an absence" (for example, Other team) record the absence without lowering attendance.
  4. Click Save attendance. If you mark everyone absent, Badgie first asks "Mark everyone absent?" to avoid mistakes.

Taking attendance on the web: one tap per student (present or absent) and, if absent, the reason.

Step by step: attendance and faces in the app

  1. In the coach app, open the Calendar: each class of the day shows present and absent counts with the Take attendance and Behaviour buttons.
  2. Take attendance: tap each student to mark them present or absent and add the absence reason if you know it.

Football coach app: Take attendance for an Alevín A training session with 10 present and 2 absent, one without a reason and one marked Holidays
Football example: each absent player has a reason or is left pending.
Coach app: Why were they absent? with reasons such as Injured, Other team (doesn't count as an absence), National team, Absent / Unjustified, Illness, Rehab, Suspended, Holidays, Work, School and Rest
Absence reasons; «Other team» doesn't count as an absence.
  1. Behaviour: choose each student's face or tap All OK. When you set a red face the app asks why: Lack of attention, Lack of respect, Doesn't follow the rules, Arrives late, Low effort or Other.

Behaviour on the web

On the session, Behaviour opens the same panel: one tap sets the face and another on the same one clears it; with no face, the student stays unrated. All OK rates everyone present, and those who did not come are listed separately. Click Save behaviour.

Attendance confirmation before the class

In the class settings turn on Request attendance confirmation (and, if you like, Send reminder), with how many hours before and through which channel: App, Email or WhatsApp. In Follow-up → Attendance confirmations you see, session by session, who confirmed, who declined and who has not replied; Automatic notices shows what was sent.

Follow-up, Attendance confirmations: explains how to turn on confirmation in the series and read the replies
Follow-up → Confirmations: session by session, who confirmed, who declined and who has not replied.

Analyse attendance and behaviour

  • Attendance → Overview: percentage for the period, sessions by band (Complete, High, Medium, Low), a table of sessions, groups or teachers, and the week-by-week trend. It can be Exported.

Attendance → Overview: each session with its percentage, by group or by teacher, and the week-by-week trend.
  • Attendance → Dropout risk: who is slipping and what to do this week, with signals such as consecutive absences or faces, and each student's last 8 sessions.
Attendance, Dropout risk: students with Medium, Good or Improving level, signals such as consecutive absences and last 8 sessions
Dropout risk: who is slipping and why, so you can act this week.
  • Behaviour: share of good faces, the Good/Neutral/Bad split, views by Students, Groups, Sessions and Matrix, and the Red faces list with their reason.
Behaviour tab: per student, latest faces, percentage good, streak and sessions without a face, with the Good, Neutral and Bad split
Behaviour by student, group, session or as a matrix, plus the list of Red faces with their reason.

What the family or player sees

In the app, the family opens Attendance and sees how many sessions are recorded and the status of each one. If the class asks for confirmation, they get the notice through the configured channel and answer from the app.

The family sees their child's attendance, session by session.

By sport

  • Swimming and level-based schools: a daily roll call per group, and faces to follow the attitude of the youngest.
  • Football and team sports: the reasons Other team, National team, Rehab or Available but not called up explain absences that are not missed sessions.
  • Tennis, padel and golf: small groups where advance confirmation helps you match courts and coaches.

With the AI agent

  • "Take today's attendance for Development B: everyone came except Jon" (the agent finds the session and proposes the roll call).
  • "How was attendance this month?" or "Which students are at risk of dropping out?".
  • "Which group has the most red faces and why?" (behaviour summary with the reasons).

Changes are proposed and applied once you approve them.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take attendance for a future class?

No. Attendance can be taken from the day of the class onwards.

Does an absence for playing with another team count as missed?

No. Reasons flagged "Does not count as an absence", such as Other team, record the absence without lowering the attendance rate.

If I cancel a class, do students get an absence?

No. A cancelled session is recorded as not held and does not count as an absence.

Are faces mandatory?

No. They are optional and depend on the club having the Behaviour module on; a student with no face stays unrated.

Can I take attendance from my phone?

Yes, from the coach app, with the same data as on the web.
